People in Alderwick Still Avoid the House With the Blue Ceiling


The word murals appeared constantly throughout the journals left behind by decorative painter Arturo Bellacorti, who restored cathedral ceilings and aristocratic villas alongside his wife Mirella and his youngest apprentice son Paolo during the late 1920s. After years traveling between estates, the family settled permanently inside Alderwick Villa while completing what Arturo described as his “final commission.”
Nobody in town ever learned who hired him.

Seven details remained behind to explain the family after the villa was abandoned: Arturo’s silver paint knives resting beside unfinished sketches; Mirella’s lace gloves folded near the grand staircase; Paolo’s charcoal studies abandoned beneath the scaffolding; a cracked pigment jar leaking deep blue stains across marble tiles; unpaid construction invoices bundled beneath wax seals; muddy footprints leading repeatedly toward the upper gallery corridor; and a final sentence written sharply inside Arturo’s notebook reading, “Do not finish the final murals once the ceiling begins reflecting movement.”
Nobody understood what he meant.
Several laborers later claimed Arturo became increasingly paranoid after painting a massive sky mural across the central ballroom ceiling during a summer heatwave that trapped humidity inside the villa for weeks. According to local rumor, faces inside the fresco appeared subtly different each morning.
Paolo reportedly stopped sleeping downstairs afterward.
He insisted someone was walking above the ceilings at night.

The Summer the Walls Started Cracking

The Bellacorti family decline accelerated after severe structural damage spread through Alderwick Villa during an unusually violent earthquake in the autumn of 1929. Cracks split through ceilings and staircases overnight. Several nearby estates were condemned immediately.
Yet workers later claimed hammering and painting noises continued inside the villa long after restoration crews abandoned the site.
Neighbors reported seeing lights moving across the ballroom ceilings after midnight despite every entrance being locked.
Then Paolo vanished.
Arturo and Mirella disappeared three nights later.

When authorities eventually entered Alderwick Villa months later, every mural inside remained unfinished exactly where Arturo had left it.
Except one.
The massive blue ceiling fresco in the ballroom had been painted over completely in solid black.
The final page of Arturo Bellacorti’s notebook mentioned the murals only once more before ending abruptly:
“Something behind the ceiling keeps learning our faces.”
